Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that chronically affects moods. The word bipolar refers to two different and contrasting “poles” of mood. Manic episodes may include symptoms such as high energy, reduced need for sleep and loss of touch with reality. Depressive episodes may include symptoms such as low energy, low motivation and loss of interest in daily activities. Mood episodes last days to months at a time and may also be associated with suicidal thoughts. Sometimes mixed episodes occur, where a person has the moods associated with depression, but the energy associated with mania. Estimates on the prevalence of bipolar disorder vary, however it is suggested up to 1 in 50 people may experience this mental illness each year.

This campaign is to let more young teenagers know about bipolar disorder, so as to prevent this mental illness in advance, and even extend a helping hand to those around you with this disorder and care for others. At the same time, eliminate prejudice and misconceptions about bipolar disorder.
